What to Expect
The Amazon: During our stay in the highlands of the Amazon, we stay three nights in the famous Cristalino Lodge, well-known to birders for its 50-foot high observation tower and marvelous birds. Look for the recently described Kawall’s Parrot, Tooth-billed Wren, Cryptic Forest-Falcon, Snow-capped Manakins, perhaps as many as 8 species of tinamous, 15 or more parrots and macaws, about 14 kinds of hummingbirds, several antbirds and too many more to list.
Chapada dos Guimarães National Park: Explore the rich birdlife of the Brazilian savannah (or cerrado) from our base at the Pousada Penhasco. Discover another group of unusual species such as Red-legged Seriemas, endemic White-rumped Tanager, recently discovered Chapada Flycatcher, Crowned Eagle, and more.
Explore the Pantanal, the largest wetland in the world with a great variety of water birds, as well as the endangered Hyacinth Macaw.
The Atlantic Rainforest in Itatiaia National Park. Look for special birds as the Swallow-tailed Cotinga, Saffron Toucanet, and Red-breasted Toucan, 16 species of flycatchers, 14 species of tanagers and other species found nowhere else.
Rio de Janeiro: For those who want to see more of Brazil, we have put together a three-day extension package to this exciting city. Stay at the well-located Praia Ipanema Hotel and see the world-famous statue of Christ the Redeemer on top of Corcovado Mountain, and ride a cable-car to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain.
