Summary
Join us on a unique and in-depth natural history excursion that explores primordial Hawaii, an isolated archipelago that like the Galapagos is a living laboratory of evolution. Travel with an HMNH study leader and meet naturalists on each island as we survey Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii, the Big Island. This natural history excursion explores the teeming wonderland of tropical marine life during a whale watching cruise and independent snorkeling. Also explore the high mountain elevations where many endemic and endangered species still survive. Study the islands’ volcanic origins and witness the dramatic differences while traveling from the oldest to the youngest island. On Mount Kilauea, the world’s most active volcano, witness vivid examples of ongoing activity, and if lucky, even orange molten lava. This is not an ordinary trip to Hawaii.
